Subject: reservoir permissions
Sailing boats and swimmers don't mix, it leads to injuries for the swimmers, so you will need to think
about having a dedicated area of the lake for swimming, or swim when the lake is not being used for sailing.
Cheers Mike....

Subject: reservoir permissions
First look on their website and find the name of the recreation wardens for that reservoir. have an informal
chat with them to find which managers are likely to be favourable. Do not just fire an email to the company,
it will be met with an immediate rejection. Finally if your in Wales don't even bother.

Subject: STARTING OUT
Hi I would like to have a go at wild swimming, coastal or rivers, lakes etc. I live in Southsea, Portsmouth.
Does anybody know of any wild swimming groups or like minded people in the area. I am a complete novice
so not 100% about starting out on my own.

Subject: Usk at Crickhowell
The Usk at Crickhowell is safe subject to the usual rules, dont swim drunk, or if the water is high,
on the Usk that normally means running brown. the best sights are below the bridge getting in on the
opposite bank from the pub (beware of Giant Hogweed plants on the little island) or from Castle meadows
above the bridge get in by the picnic benches. Further details of sites in the area can be found at
www.swimming-holes-wales.org.uk

Subject: Swimming in the Usk
I am going to the Green Man festival in Crickhowell, Wales this weekend. I have read that you can swim
in the Usk there however some people on the festival forum seem think it's not safe due to someone drowning
there last year and also due to the rain making the river swell. Does anybody know if there's any truth
in that? thanks

Subject: Wild Swimming books sell like hot cakes.
The BBC Four TV documentary 'Wild Swimming with Alice Roberts' aired last week, has led to record sales
of wild swimming books. Roger Deakin's Waterlog sold 663 copies last week alone. Wild Swimming by Daniel
Start sold 406 nearly doubling sales for the previous week. Immediately after enjoying her first wild
swim, Alice Roberts said that she experienced 'a delightful feeling of breaking the rules and doing
something naughty.' Read HUNG OUT TO DRY Swimming and British Culture and discover why we British have
such hang-ups about swimming in the great outdoors (wild swimming).

Subject: Unwanted media calls
Below is a copy of an email we sent Andrew: Dear Andrew, I am truly sorry about this. I should,
indeed have contacted you myself first. Sadly the media do not work this way - requests are usually 'urgent'
('we are doing a bit about swimming tomorrow morning' or even 'later this morning....') This is
what happened in this case. I hope you will appreciate that any media exposure is in our best interest
and we never had a complaint from members who have been contacted this way before. Would you like me
to mark you as a member who does not wish to be contacted by phone? Only contacted by us? My apologies
again Yacov Lev We urge members who share Andrew's feeling to email us with details as to who
may or may not contact them either by phone or email. Please note that this option is presented on the
'Join Us' form.
